Alumnus Profile: Susan Noorily, M.D., '90

Interview by Brenda Dickinson

The decision to move (anyplace sunny and warm) was mostly her husband Allen’s, who is a maize and blue ENT alum. He has recently entered private practice with another U-M ENT graduate. The Noorily’s have two daughters, Talia (3 yrs.) and Ariella (4 mo.), who enjoy visits of their relatives from Michigan, Florida, and Texas.

Dr. Noorily spends three days a week at the hospital, mostly in obstetrics—the best possible schedule for her since she avoids being on call and working weekends. Presently, the University has 42 residents, 11 CRNAs, and 30 faculty, who cover seven areas; OB-GYN, outpatient services, surgery, obstetrics, dental school, 12 operating rooms, and 11 labor and delivery rooms. The department also runs an acute pain service and pain clinic at the 484-bed hospital.

Certainly a busy person, Susan has an article to be published in Anesthesia and Analgesia. This October she has another in progress for the ENT journal, Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, in collaboration with her husband.
