Volunteer for Research

Advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders are only possible when people participate in research. People take part in research for many different reasons. Sometimes they hope to benefit from new medications or treatments not yet available to the public, but most of the time they just want to help. Many patients realize that while these studies may be of limited help to them personally, the knowledge gained will help others in the future. For many, this vital contribution is a reward in itself.

Study participants have listed other benefits such as:

  • Maintaining regular contact with the study team and other dementia experts who can provide a wide range of information, support and referrals to community services
  • Playing an active role in their own health care
  • Learning about memory and thinking abilities, and how they can change over time

We need your help. People living with memory loss or dementia, caregivers, and healthy volunteers are needed for study participation. Please consider learning more about our currently enrolling studies.

Interested in volunteering in a study?

Please complete the Research Volunteer Form if you are interested in being considered for a study. This form provides information about your medical history and the types of studies you are interested in learning more about.

Once the completed form is received by mail, MADC staff will review your responses and determine preliminary eligibility for study participation. You will then receive a call from the study coordinator within a month of mailing in the form. If you do not receive a call within this time, please call 734-936-8764 to inquire about your application. If you do not receive health care through the University of Michigan Health System, you may be asked by the study coordinator to provide a copy of your medical records from your primary care physician or specialist. This information will be reviewed to determine eligibility for study participation.
