Program Structure
The Administrative Fellowship Program is designed to train the next generation of health care leaders. At the beginning of the program, the fellow will meet with the fellowship coordinators to discuss goals, interests and future project work. The program does not have required rotations in departments, but rather is geared towards an individual’s own interests and the institution’s priorities. Project work can be pursued in many different areas including hospital operations, finance, quality improvement, information technology, human resources, research administration, medical education, compliance, and program development. The fellow will experience a variety of administrative activities, all within a framework of continuous learning. The fellow is also invited to participate in many different management meetings in order to learn and understand the issues currently facing academic health centers.
Building relationships
The Administrative Fellowship Program also provides many opportunities for mentorship and guidance with high level executives. The fellow works closely with senior level executives in the Health System and has the opportunity to develop mentoring relationships with many leaders throughout the University.
Preparing for the future
Administrative fellows from the UMHS have pursued many different career paths after completing the fellowship, as the program provides a skill set that may be transferable to many different aspects of health care management. Specifically, the program will enhance and develop an individual’s analytical, communications, project management, organizational and leadership skills. |
