Investing in Abilities
The year 2008 marks the nineteenth year in which the University of Michigan, under the leadership of the Council for Disability Concerns, has sponsored educational programs and events designed to increase awareness of important disability issues. U-M offers these activities to promote a greater recognition of the skills and talents that people with disabilities contribute to the University and to the greater society.
Every year we organize an events series to appeal to a broad spectrum of individuals. We incorporate appropriate themes to raise consciousness about people with disabilities. We have a keynote speaker to provide inspiration and motivation. We also schedule various panels to illuminate such pertinent and prevailing problems as depression, and the difficulty of finding and keeping employment when one has a disability.
Our events are free and open to all members of the University community as well as the general public. We hold all programs at accessible locations and provide sign language interpreters on request.
