In order to limit the amount of contact between clients, volunteers and staff right now due to COVID-19, AAMOW has consolidated our meal delivery days from Monday-Saturday into Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We are continuing to send out additional meals on all three delivery days in order to ensure that clients receive the same number of meals each week.
Clients are still receiving the same number of fresh, prepared meals each week in addition to being offered shelf-stable, liquid and frozen meals to increase their nutritional safety net in the midst of the pandemic. Staff are also conducting weekly wellness checks over the phone with all of our clients and providing social work support that includes addressing tangible needs and making referrals to additional community supports.
We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from individuals offering to deliver meals right now. At this time, we are not holding any new volunteer orientations as we currently have enough volunteers to carry out all of our meal deliveries. However, we will reach out to everyone who has filled out our online Volunteer Application if we need any additional support in the near future and following the end of this pandemic to gauge your ongoing interest in volunteering with Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels.
We will continue to keep our volunteers informed by email and through our Facebook page (make sure to like us if you haven't already to stay updated).
We are receiving a growing number of requests from clients due to the pandemic for various household items and toiletries. We will have purple donation bins outside both entrances of our office (2025 Traverwood Drive, Suite F, Ann Arbor, MI 48105) that new/unused donations can be left in on our delivery days (Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays) from 8-11am and 12-4pm .
(Unscented/hypoallergenic items are preferred, if possible):
We are also seeking donations of hand sanitizer for volunteers to use when delivering meals, Lysol/Clorox disinfectant spray/wipes to sanitize items that volunteers/staff touch in the midst of the meal delivery process, and financial gifts of any size to help support our clients and program in the midst of COVID-19.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our clients, program and community!
Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels, a program of Community Health Services at Michigan Medicine, seeks to reduce hunger and food insecurity in a culturally appropriate manner for the homebound in Ann Arbor area who, because of their health, are unable to shop and prepare a complete, nutritious meal.
Meals are delivered Monday-Saturday to homebound members of our community. Participants can choose between a hot meal, sack lunch or both. Ensure is also available to those who are at nutritional risk. A sack lunch is available on Saturday for a Sunday meal. Learn More
Volunteers serve a critical role in helping us serve our homebound neighbors by delivering meals and conducting wellness checks, helping with yard clean up at client homes, bagging Ensure in the AAMOW office, and taking part in our Community Engagement Group. Learn More
As a community supported program of Michigan Medicine, we depend on the generous support of our community to sustain and expand our services. Financial support can be provided through direct gifts, bequests, annuities, stocks, trusts and more.
