Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels

"More than a Meal"

"I don't know what I'd do without you all. Such a very fine and life-saving program. I thank you all with a very full heart." - Meals on Wheels participant

Ann Arbor's Meals on Wheels program reduces hunger and food insecurity for homebound adults (age 18+) in Ann Arbor who are frail, medically compromised, or have a short- or long-term disability that impacts their ability to shop and prepare complete, nutritious meals. Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels Overview

Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels is participating in the national America, Let's do Lunch™ campaign by Meals on Wheels America and the Ad Council. We rely heavily on volunteers to deliver our meals. Our application must be completed and submitted before volunteering.

Meals are delivered Monday-Saturday. Participants can choose between a hot meal, sack lunch or both. Liquid meals such as Ensure are available to those who are at nutritional risk. A sack lunch is available on Saturday for a Sunday meal.

The visit by the volunteer or staff who deliver meals also serves as a safety or wellness check. Volunteers report back any concerns they have to Meals on Wheels staff. Staff follow up with any concerns and may include calling an emergency contact. For many of our participants, a volunteer is the only person they see all day.

We use a 6-week cyclical menu and provide standard, vegetarian entrée, diabetic dessert option, Asian, Kosher and liquid meals. UMHS Patient Food and Nutrition Services prepares all of our meals except the Asian and Kosher options.

Check out what our participants are telling us about why they appreciate our service!
