University of Michigan Neurology Resident 2005-2008
The past few years in Ann Arbor and at the U of M have been a great experience. I am from the Midwest and so far I have not managed to break free! I have found that Ann Arbor has culture, restaurants, unique coffee shops and breweries in addition to great outdoor activities and music. This place also has an overall friendly atmosphere with some quiet places to explore and relax. I love being outdoors and thus I have explored some of the local parks including the Arboretum, which is within walking distance from U of M. Since moving here, I have learned to mountain bike, sail at the University of Michigan Sailing Club, and wake board on one of the local lakes. Sometimes it is difficult to decide how to spend your free weekend! As far as the residency, I was drawn to U of M because I felt it was the place where I connected the best with the residents and staff I met. I felt that I could form lasting friendships. I was right! Not only have I learned a tremendous amount of neurology, I have also made some wonderful friends! I am trying to decide where to do my fellowship in neuromuscular disorders/Neurophysiology and the thought of possibly leaving is very difficult! Also for those interested in academics, there are lots of opportunities to do short and simple research projects and poster presentations to enhance your resume.
