Neurogenetic (Inherited Neurologic) Disorders
Some neurologic disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and dystonia are associated with families. The Neurogenetic Disorders Program provides research, diagnostic evaluation, care, and referral for individuals and families with these inherited and degenerative neurologic disorders. We treat conditions such as familial Alzheimer's disease, familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, familial dystonia, paroxysmal dystonia and many neurogenetic disorders.
In addition to diagnostic evaluation and care, we are actively researching causes as well as alternative treatment options for these disorders. As a result, many of our patients participate in research studies aimed at understanding the cause of the specific disorder; defining the natural history of the condition; or establishing treatment.
