UMHS Nursing Professional Development and Education for Nursing (PD&E)
Your professional growth and career development starts from the moment you enter UMHS and continues throughout your tenure at the Health System. We support the belief that the educational continuum of orientation to ongoing professional development impacts the quality of patient care delivered at UMHS.
Orientation
Our preceptored, competency-based orientation is designed to meet your specific role and clinical area needs. Orientation ranges from 6 weeks to 6 months based on your experience and clinical specialty. In addition we have a critical care externship for students and internships in some of our specialty areas. For staff who expand their roles to preceptors, educators, researchers, case managers, etc, an orientation is designed just for them.
Ongoing competence
Competence is maintained and enhanced through current updates on clinical issues, high risk practices, and new equipment. Opportunities to learn are through unit-based inservices, web based learning and informal discussions.
Professional Development
Continuing education promotes your clinical expertise and role development. Many programs bring internationally recognized experts to you. Our continuing education activities receive contact hours through our ANCC accreditation process.
