Divisions
Providing quality clinical care to culturally diverse groups is a vital part of the University of Michigan Health System’s vision as a leading health care facility. UMHS created the Program for Multicultural Health because of a growing awareness of the increasing diversity of UMHS patients and staff. To address both internal service and external community needs, the Program has three divisions:
Division Goals |
Community Health Promotion Division (CHPD) |
Cultural Competency Division (CCD) |
Health Education and Resources Division |
Goal 1 |
To develop and implement culturally appropriate health promotion research |
To assess the needs of UMHS staff and offer various and sustained educational opportunities |
To provide culturally appropriate health information and resources for health professionals, academia and the community |
Goal 2 |
To collaborate with organizations to develop or enhance health programs for multicultural populations |
To monitor compliance with cultural competency related standards and collaboratively create and implement initiatives |
To provide health promotion, education and health assessments to the community |
Goal 3 |
To promote and advocate for polices that improve the health of multicultural populations |
To provide internal, national and international consultations, presentations, policy reviews |
To develop pedagogies and practica for students to increase their knowledge and experience in working with culturally diverse populations |
Together, our three divisions form a unique, comprehensive approach to improving health and services to a culturally diverse community. Please visit each Division’s Web pages for information about programs, events and health resources.
