Overview
We reduce the barriers to health care, assess health care needs and provide interventions for underserved, culturally diverse groups.
Reducing the Barriers to Health Care
We work on reducing these barriers to health care:
- accessibility
- accountability
- affordability
- equity
- quality and
- sustainability
Assessing Health Care Needs
Developing culturally appropriate health strategies depends upon:
- a thorough understanding of culture-specific health needs
- the ability to work with individuals from varied racial and ethnic groups and
- the capacity for conducting assessments and developing interventions.
We use and build upon models of best practices for developing an in-depth understanding of a culture from its members’ perspectives. This culture-specific understanding then guides us in developing relevant evidenced-based interventions and initiatives.
We use several methods for health promotion assessment, including:
- collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
- bio-specimen collection and
- participant observation.
Providing Intervention
We use our findings to design culture-specific interventions focused upon disease management, healthy behaviors, social support, improved health outcomes and the reduction of negative impacts of select diseases.
