Events

Each year the Financial Aid Office hosts a number of seminars that we collectively call the Financial Wellness Series. These seminars are targeted toward helping students make informed decisions concerning their financial well-being. The title and short description of each of the seminars for this year is listed below. If you have other topics of interest that you would like to see in future years, please let us know.

Financial Wellness Series 2013 - 2014 Seminars

November 19 – Managing Your Money – Creating and Budget

Elizabeth Dickson-Sanders and Megan Bridgett, GreenPath Debt Solutions

Learn about the importance of creating a monthly budget, tracking expenses, and systems to help you stay organized with your money. We will discuss priorities, needs vs. wants, and the dangers of excessive credit card debt.

November 19 – Your Credit Report – What You Need to Know – 6:30 pm

Learn how credit reporting works, the importance of maintaining good credit, the cost of credit and protecting yourself from ID theft. 

NOTE: Managing Your Money and Your Credit Report are being held on the same evening, with a short dinner break at approximately 6:15.

February 4 – Investment Basics and Wealth Planning

Already thinking about what you want to accomplish for yourself and your family as your career progresses? This seminar will help you understand the fundamental for planning for success while addressing the “what-ifs” that can throw your plans off track. While we will talk about wealth planning as a long-term activity, we will focus on what you can do as a house officer to start yourself on the path toward financial security.

This presentation is geared toward graduating M4 students, but all students are welcome and encouraged to attend. This presentation complements the mandatory individual exit interview with the Financial Aid Office. In this session you will learn how recent and upcoming regulations will help address the mounting debt burden facing many medical school graduates.
