Research (Michigan Expert Profile)

Dr. Stoll is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He received his Diplom (M.Sc) degree in biology and Dr. rer. nat. (Ph.D) in genetics from the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, Germany. He joined the Department of Dermatology at the University of Michigan in 1993 as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. James T. Elder's laboratory. In 1998, he was promoted to Research Investigator and in 2007 to Research Assistant Professor.

Dr. Stoll's primary research focus is the role of EGF receptor (EGFR) signaling in epithelial cell biology, with a particular interest in understanding the context-dependent functions of the various EGFR ligands in normal and malignant epithelial cells. His current research aims to identify how the cytoplasmic domains of EGFR ligand precursors influence epithelial cell behavior including proliferation, differentiation and survival.
