Retirement Reception for Dr. Anderson

Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Thomas Anderson, Associate Professor Emeritus, upon his retirement from The University of Michigan Department of Dermatology.

Dr. Anderson joined the faculty of the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology in 1978.  His expertise in the area of photo medicine has enhanced our education and clinical research missions and has advanced our clinical and patient care programs in the areas of psoriatic skin disease and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

He served a primary role in establishing and directing the U-M Dermatology Treatment Center (DTC), a highly successful treatment program for those afflicted with severe psoriasis disease. Early in his faculty career, Dr. Anderson oversaw pioneering clinical research, which studied the effects of psoralen-photo chemotherapy treatment in those afflicted by severe psoriasis and in cutaneous lymphoma. He has authored 25 book chapters and 65 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Anderson served as director of the U-M Dermatology Treatment Center and Phototherapy Unit from 1987 to 2017 and led the U-M Cutaneous Lymphoma Program from 1999 to 2017. He has also served in many leadership and committee roles for national and regional professional societies throughout the years, including the Michigan Dermatological Society, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Dermatology Foundation, the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation and others.

As a clinical educator and attending faculty phsyician, he has provided instruction to future doctors in the lecture hall, conference and patient care settings, including countless of medical students, and more than 250 dermatology residents at the University of Michigan.

We wish Dr. Anderson much success in his retirement, and thank him for his many years of service.
