How do I prepare for a Gastric Emptying Test?

How do I prepare for a Gastric Emptying Test?

During your recent visit to the Department of Gastroenterology, you were scheduled for a gastric emptying test. This test will be done in Nuclear Medicine.

To prepare for the test, you cannot have anything to eat 6 hours before the test nor anything to drink 4 hours before the test. If a solid gastric emptying test is to be done, you will receive a meal of either scrambled eggs and toast or oatmeal when you arrive for the test. If you are allergic to eggs please notify the Nuclear Medicine Department at (734-936-5090). If you are scheduled for a liquid gastric emptying test, liquids will be furnished before your test.
